On Saturday, our friends treated us to a Rockies game, which we enjoyed for the time of hanging out with great friends in wonderful weather despite their loss to the Mets 9-2. Ugh! On Sunday, we did some yard work and more efforts on our kitchen sink plumbing (more below on that), before getting dressed up for a delightful wedding reception re-do bash that our friends did. I called it "prom for grown ups"-- a time to get all dressed up, go on a date with my dressed up hubby, watch our friends renew their wedding vows (with about 70 other guests), have a nice dinner with great friends, and then dance for hours. It was terrific (and no baby sitter needed, yet...).
Monday was a gray day, great for sleeping in, going to out breakfast at IHOP, and then napping before going to a b-b-q with our small group from church. I wish every weekend could be like that...
Oh yeah, the plumbing thing: We found out a couple of months ago that our dishwasher was under recall, so we decided to replace it with the GE recall refund. That entailed cutting up more of the ugly pink countertop to get it out (since the hardwood floors have it hemmed in), so we decided it was also time to invest in a new countertop, sink and faucet -- something we've been intending since we moved into the house. After much debate, we
decided to go with dark gray granite which wasn't that much more expensive than the other solid stone-type options we were considering. We chose a complimentary deep single bowl black undermount sink and a brushed nickel pull-down nozzle faucet. However, in changing from a double sink to a single, we found that our garbage disposal no longer fits into the plumbing underneath our sink, and our favorite plumber (my dad) is on vacation in California for
a month. We amateur plumbers were able to jerry-rig a drain (thanks to accordion style flexible pieces), but then realized that we forgot to connect the dishwasher drain pipe. At least we realized it BEFORE we ran the dishwasher. So we've been hand-washing dishes for a week -- my LEAST favorite chore. On Sunday, Shawn made another effort to connect the dishwasher drain, but it didn't work, so we're still trying to figure that out.
